Ruby on Rails often called RoR or Rails, is an open source web application framework. Like many web frameworks, Rails uses the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture pattern to organize application programming. Rails includes tools that make common development tasks easier "out of the box", such as scaffolding that can automatically construct some of the models and views needed for a basic website. Also included are WEBrick, a simple ruby on rails web server, and Rake, a build system. Together with Rails these tools provide a basic development environment. Ruby on Rails strives for simplicity and allowing real-world applications to be developed in less code than other frameworks and with a minimum of configuration. The ror programming language allows for extensive meta-programming, of which Rails makes much use. This results in a syntax that many of its users find to be very easily readable.
